Beef Jerkey Dehydrator

One of the most effective ways of preserving meats is with a beef jerky dehydrator. These food dehydrators remove the moisture from the meat by heating the meat and circulating hot air, typically at one hundred and forty degrees Fahrenheit. Since this is not a high enough heat to kill bacteria it is recommended that the meat be cooked at 160 degrees F in liquid to kill any harmful bacteria.

A beef jerky dehydrator preserves the meat for a minimum of one to two months, but can also be effective for storing meat for longer than a year. The biggest factor in the preserved time is the amount of fat present in the meat. A fatty meat does not dehydrate well and will spoil much sooner than a meat with all the fat removed.

A beef jerky dehydrator can also be used to dehydrate many types of foods for further preservation. Fruits, veggies and many other foods can be dehydrated easily and effectively in less than a day allowing it to stay preserved for months. Combinations of dehydrated foods are perfect for camping trail mixes and food storage.
